I know a lot of people that DON’T make New Year’s Resolutions, because they already know that they can’t keep them. I too have made resolutions that I haven’t been able to keep, but I at least gave a very good try. (I did really well last year for about 9 months! – comment on the blog if you want to know what the resolution was)
I understand not wanting to set yourself up for failure, but not trying at all? This is the one of things the heroine of my book wrestles with, she doesn’t want to try because she doesn’t want to be disappointed. Of course in the book she resolves this, but this is real life, so is there a resolution that you can make and keep? Is there a way to avoid setting yourself up for disappointment?
How about every day just promise yourself that you will do a little bit better than the day before? Don’t shoot for losing twenty pounds, just promise not to eat cookies at lunch and the next day maybe no cookies at lunch or dinner. The next maybe you will add in a walk up the street. Every morning just tell yourself you will do just a bit better today then you did the day before. Just one small step everyday and in a year, who knows how much you will accomplish.
Have a healthy, safe, creative and prosperous New Year.
