Getting a job takes a lot of work. Interviewing is a skill in itself and it can be exhausting. It takes practice to interview, and I don’t mean the fake job interview exercises they make you do at the unemployment office classes. I mean you need your story, the how and why you want the job, the why you are the one and you need to say this story until until it flows smoothly and easily. Rehearse it in the car, say it to your hairdresser, the butcher, baker candlestick maker. Interviewing is like training for a marathon, make sure you are prepared and ready.
As a follow up to my last post about my short story, “The Interview,” – here are some tips for getting a job.
1. A job interview is a sale presentation. You are selling yourself. You are the product; know every detail of your product.
2. First Impressions – From your hair to your shoes – look your best.
3. Resumes and social media – Your resume isn’t the only thing your potential employer is looking at, make sure your social media channels – blog, Facebook, linked in, all reflect someone they want to hire.
