“The creative is the place where no one else has ever been.”
Alan Alda said this in speech he delivered at his daughter’s graduation. The entire speech was published by Readers Digest many, many years ago and I tore it out of the magazine and kept it in a plastic protective cover. I kept it pinned to my bulletin board – even back then I was looking for inspiration and that speech is very inspiring.
I always thought creativity was for artists, designers, painters, musicians, never for an ordinary person like me. But even an ordinary person, like me, is creative because everyone is unique, no two people are alike. And applying even the smallest ounce of creativity to anything can make our extraordinary self stand out – it will display our unique self, our truest self, our one-of-a-kind self.
Creativity can be found everywhere:
From how you creatively you stretch your food dollars
To getting a job
To landing a job interview
To baking anything
To teaching children how to read
Any of these things can be a step into the creative. Let’s take a step to that.
